Goal Setting

These are some basic, yet important things to consider while setting goals. If you have any questions or realize something during the process, let me know and if you want, share with others!

The first thing to consider while setting any goal is what is your current situation RIGHT NOW! Where are you financially, emotionally, physically and so on... Knowing what is occurring in your life at the very moment of setting a goal is crucial.

Imagine this;

You are planning a vacations to New Zealand (or wherever you wish to go). ou know much of the destination and you would love to go and experience this part that life has to offer you. As you make the arrangment the travel agency asks you where you wan to go and your budget. She comes to a point to where you need to tell her where you are starting from, your home. If you are not clear on this, how can you effectively plan this trip? YOU NEED TO KNOW YOUR STARTING FROM!

The second step is to know where you are going. I like to think of myself in five years and what I want it to look like. I assest my current place and then I make goals for the year, month and weeks.

Now that I have my location and the place I want to go my third step is to break down the tasks that will get me there. Is my goal a one year, 2 year or will it take only a few months?

Example: I want to loose weight, 40 lbs. About 10-12 lbs is a dress size. I want to loose it before summer which gives me 5 months which is less than 10 lbs a month and roughly 21 weeks. My goal is to loose 2.5 lbs a week to stay on track and maybe ahead of the game. I choose to go to the gym 2 times a week and cut 3000 calories from my diet per week. Every day I will be trimming less then 500 calories a day from my diet to reach my goal.

By breaking it down to months, weeks and all of the smaller details I am able to know what I can do on a daily basis to support myself to reach my ultimate goal.

The key to all of this is to set yourself up for success!! Make only goals that you want to achieve, that are attainable and have a Specific time frame of completion!

Do you have a goal you want to work on that you need strong support from someone that is rigorous and believes that anything is possible? Give me a call or email me for more information on what it will take for you to have the best year of your life!!

The only true failure is never doing anything to begin with. Start today!!

New Years

I have heard many talk about the last ten years and the closing of a decade. For me it has been a whirlwind of events over the past 10 years, as I am sure for many of you. I am grateful for these events for making me a better, smarter and wiser person. I definitely have more character than before!!

As I pondered the New Year coming upon me I thought if the year that had just past. Is there anything left undone that needs to be finished before Ican take full advantage of the soon to be new year? What came to mind for me was to accept the blessings of the year. That means that even the challenges faced had blessing in them and I wanted to acknowledge the gifts each one of them had brought into my life. I realized that the challenges of the year meant that even though I had them (and we all do) I am not alone. I am supported by others and even forces that I do not see. I believe that my friend that lost her battle to CF this year, has guided me already in different areas in my life. The financial difficulties have made me more wise to being frugal and loving the smaller things in life. The personal relationship struggles that I have had have taught me everyone deserves the truth and the opportunity to shine because of knowing the truth. All of these (and many more I am sure) in one way or another have taught me to love, to be open to the gifts of life and to let go and trust that things will work out the way that is best, even though many times it is may not be the way I had anticipated. To trust in my own divinity and purpose in this life to empower others to take on themselves and their world to ultimately love themselves, is a huge task and one that I happily bare.

My wish for you in 2010 May peace break into your home and may thieves come to steal your debts. May the pockets of your jeans become a magnet for $100 bills. May love stick to your face like Vaseline and may laughter assault your lips! May happiness slap you across the face and may your tears be that of joy! May the problems you had, forget your home address! May 2010 be the best year yet!!

In my next entry -Goal Setting- I will outline some basic tools for goal setting. Use it however you wish and works best for you. Always let me know how you are doing and post for the learning for all!

Christmas

I noticed that there was a sense of gratitude that was much deeper than inprevious years for me and many of those around me. A time to spend with thefamily and loved ones to bring people closer and to do service, even secretly, for others. Many of my family came to our place for Christmas and wouldn't youguess it, Santa showed up too.

Our family has a mix of relationships, some married, some divorced andothers that have been dating for quite some time. Some of the kids are not withus every year so this year we were all together, what a blessing. As I observedthe different gifts and abundance given to each person I realized that the onesthat were hurting the most financially gave the most. Giving is so connected tohow happy we feel. And sometimes when we give it is out of feeling inadequateor making up for something that is lacking. And other times it is just becauseyou feel in your heart it is what you want to do because you are grateful forwhat you have, no matter how big or small, and you want to share your love.

After the festivities were through I spent a day of recouping and cleaning. My daughter has a little girl up the street she loves to play withand we had her over on Wednesday the 30th. They did not get along that day. Kept arguing and fighting over funny little things (at least for me it waslittle) so I took the girl home not even an hour into the play date. Seems asthough children may come down even harder than us adults after the excitementof Christmas is over. With Santa gone and the presents opened and all thatcandy, no wonder they need a day to rest, even friends. Little guys are justlike us just experiencing many of these things for the first time and notknowing how to process and ask for what they want.It is noce to know what is needed and being able to change the situation to accommodate ourselves and those around us!

I hope you had a Merry Christmas and that it was all you wanted andmore!

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is coming upon us rather quickly. As many work at being more conscious of gratitude, it is important to have gratitude always. When we are aware of the things in our lives that complete us, we have a higher energy level that attracts others to us that are of like minds. One of the excersices some of my clients and I have done is writing a gratitude journal. Yesturday I started mine up again and I encourage you to take on this challenge. What you do is get a journal or notebook (if you already have one, great, just insert this into your daily journaling). And for everyday for 2 months write 5-7 things you are grateful for in your life. The first little bit might be easy and then the challenge comes when you need to look deeper for things that have blessed your life. Remember, you can not repeat anything. Every entry needs to be new to create more focus on the good things that life has to offer. After the 60 days you will have 420 things written down of things that you are grateful for.

I encourage each of you to share with us what you experience and notice in this process!

Life Purpose

This past weekend I went to Las Vegas for a Coaching Conference hosted by Resource Realizations. There I saw Debbie Ford (Shadow Work), Tim Kelly (purpose work), Lou Dozier (Inspirational living) and so many more. What I learned is that every thing is connected. So much of the work I have been doing the past couple of years is starting to come full circle. Every person that I heard speak confirmed to me t hat I am on the right track for me.

My friend Heather passed away in May about a week and a half after I talked to her as indicated from the previous post. Even now I am still recieving gifts from having her in my life. Funny that she is not alive but I can still feel her and I know that she is guiding me to where I need to be. Have you ever experienced this?

So my point is that each person has a purpose and we find it in the way that makes sense for the individual. What I understand from this is that one of my purposes in life is to Love and be Loved. And how I understand this is, Love is why we were created, essentially why we exist. Seeing the darker parts of ourselves (you know the part you don't want others to see) is as important as the light places in the fact that you cannot have light without darkness or darkness without the light. A lighthouse was created because of the dark to help stear others from danger, however it is not drving the ship. Without darkness there would be no need for a lighthouse. The same for happiness/sadness, up/down, good/bad and so on. Without the opposition, you would not get to see what you are made of and be grateful for the sun and the rain, each blesses our lives in a way to help us grow and be better people. My purpose is to Love and be Loved and to teach that to others. How profound! I have experienced life with love and without and I love deeper knowing the difference!

There Are No Accidents

I have been contemplating "There are no Accidents" for the past few days, well years really. But the last few days have been most intriguing for me because I have a friend that is ill and is striving to stay alive. I met Heather almost 3 years ago and learned that she has Cystic Fibrosis, a disease that effects the lungs.

Right now Heather is in the hospital recovering from one of her many trials in physical health and I got to thinking about how I met her, the course of our friendship since then and all that she has taught me. I have learned much about gratitude, attitude is everything and perseverance since she stepped into my life. I was blown away on how much meeting her has enriched my life. I was feeling a bit selfish realizing this because I was not sure if she had received anything of great value from me. So I asked her today if she has received anything from our friendship and she said yes, the biggest thing for her is that I do not judge her and I accept her for who she is. What a great compliment!

The thing is, there are no accidents in life. The people in my life are put there when I need them or when they need me. And when there is nothing more to receive from the relationship/gift we move on, permanently changed for our experience. Truly amazing!

Inspirational Quotes and Phrases

"For every pain there is a purpose"

To me this means that with every trial and error there is learning. When trials are re-occurring, that means the lessons have not been learned and the purpose has not come to light. One of the roles as a coach is to enlighten clients to their learning and growth and take action on what they want in their lives. What is you purpose? When will you get started?
